Proposed design process

9SR steps-

8 trigrams stand for different meanings and represent 8 different stages or states. The design process is also roughly defined with 8 steps; each step’s processing energy will flow into the next one.

Strategy: 9SR as design tools

9SR-

The Mingtang nine-room diagram (明堂九室圖) is taken and used as a representational, operational and generative tool. The following slides show its spatialization.

Diagram: Yin & Yang

Yin&Yang diagrams

The concept rooted in Chinese philosophy, yin and yang, and its derivative diagrams will be used as design tools for intepreting representational meanings, ordering programs and context, and generating schematic design.

Tri-layer

Tri-layer

The idea of introducing tri-layer is to define and deal with spatial problems with interface composed of three layers. Each layer is in charge of either exterior, interior, or approaching experience from the exterior to the interior.

Proposed type B & C

Type B-
Type B was proposed to deal with a family group with four families. Spaces of each family are distributed in its individual two-story volume. Private rooms on double decks surround common spaces.
