The Mingtang nine-room diagram (明堂九室圖) is taken and used as a representational, operational and generative tool. The following slides show its spatialization.

The concept rooted in Chinese philosophy, yin and yang, and its derivative diagrams will be used as design tools for intepreting representational meanings, ordering programs and context, and generating schematic design.

The idea of introducing tri-layer is to define and deal with spatial problems with interface composed of three layers. Each layer is in charge of either exterior, interior, or approaching experience from the exterior to the interior.

Connective spaces

Spaces accommodating certain activities work as connective spaces to bridge private family spaces and public community spaces. The connective spaces were classfied into six categories: ritual spaces, leisure spaces, social spaces, transitional spaces, production spaces, and service spaces.
