The Resettlement of the Lane 539

To rehouse the 11 families according to the inhabitants’ needs within the existing residential site.

The existing houses inside the lane 359 were built between the 70s’ and 80s.’ Because of social development and economic restriction, housing types built during that period in Taiwan were limited and sometimes monotonous. The idea of customization was quite weak and most houses for ordinary citizens weren’t designed by architects.

All houses were more or less the same when they were built. The inhabitants did modifications later by themselves according to their specific needs. Some people had to purchase a new house when their demands couldn’t be met via modifications. Also due to the immature building technology of the past, some houses were not that durable and caused some problems after years.

Although with these problems, people of the last generation, who built their families decades ago, are used to live in hometown and tend to stay in their old houses. In the meantime, most families are going through some changes in family members and life styles. It’s time to introduce a new housing type that is capable of providing better living quality, more flexibility and personality ;at the same time guarantees the building quality and durability within budget.
